You are in heaven, O Lord, and I am Your sinful creature, here upon earth: make me to worship You this day, with all becoming reverence and submission both of soul and body; and fulfil Your gracious promise, that where two or three are gathered together in Your name, there will You be in the midst of them.

Help me against the infirmities of my nature, and the sins that beset me in my attendance upon You. Bless the instruction, which may this day be given to all that profess the name of Christ; that it may fall upon serious and faithful hearts, to the strengthening of belief, and the improvement of practice. Incline me to hear Your word with attention, and to receive it with meekness and gladness of heart.

Dispose and prepare my soul to receive the full benefit of those holy ordinances which You have appointed for my edification and comfort; and grant that the effects of my religious exercises on this day may be seen in my Christian behavior during the remainder of the week; that each succeeding Lord’s day may find me advancing in the great work of my salvation, and better prepared for that eternal rest, which is in store for the faithful servants of Your blessed Son.
