O God, who makes the outgoings of the morning and evening to praise You, accept my hearty thanksgivings for the blessings of the past night.

I have lain down and slept, and are now assembled together to acknowledge that it is You only who makes me continually to dwell in safety.

You are the God of my life: day by day will I direct my prayer to You, and look up. Hear me, I ask You, in the multitude of Your mercies, in the truth of Your salvation, for the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, my Lord.

The holy rest of the Sabbath is gone by; and I am now entering’ on the duties of my various callings in which Your providence has placed me.

Grant, Lord, that the day which is past may shed its hallowed influence on this day, and on all the days of the week. Give me grace to engage in the cares and business of life with fear and trembling, as those who know the deceitfulness of sin, and the weakness of my mortal nature.

Keep me from the evil that is in the world. Give me that faith which will enable me to overcome its various temptations, to renounce its pomps and vanities, to withstand its allurements, and to disregard its frowns. And grant that I, being regenerate and made Your children by adoption and grace, may daily be renewed by Your Holy Spirit. Grant, that having been received into the congregation of Christ’s flock, and professing myself his disciples, I may not be ashamed to confess the faith of Christ crucified, and manfully to fight under his banner against sin, the world, and the devil, and to continue his faithful soldiers and servants to my lives’ end.

I acknowledge, O God, that after former Sabbaths, my vows and resolutions have too often been forgotten,’ and have passed away like the morning cloud, and the early dew. Strengthen, therefore, O Lord, I ask You, the holy thoughts and desires which may have been produced in my minds. Enable me to show my sincere gratitude to You for Your day of rest, by causing my profiting to appear to all men.

Make me of good understanding in the ways of godliness. Subdue the workings of my evil hearts. Preserve me from pride and envy, from hatred and malice, from murmurings and disputing’s, from covetousness and dishonesty, from selfishness and idleness, from unchristian tempers and impure desires, and from all hurtful lusts that war against the soul.

Pardon and correct whatever is sinful in me; strengthen what is weak; confirm what is wavering; supply what is wanting; and make me thoroughly furnished to every good word and work.

But without You I can do nothing. Prevent me, therefore, O Lord, in all my doings, with Your most gracious favor, and further me with Your continual help; that, in all my works begun, continued, and ended in You, I may glorify Your holy name, and finally, by Your mercy, obtain everlasting life.

Sanctify, I ask You, the means of grace to all those who attended them yesterday. Water the seed which was sown with the dew of Your blessing; that, being received into an honest and .good heart, it may bring forth fruit abundantly.

Preserve such as are more especially dear to me, from being overcharged with the cares of this life. May they show by their conduct that they have profited by the ordinances of Your house, and have not received Your grace in vain.

Pity and convert those who profess to know You, but in works deny You; and dispose them, in the future, to walk worthy of the vocation wherewith they are called.

Give Your blessing to all whom You has set over the congregations of Your people: [especially to him whom You has set over me.] Strengthen their hands, and comfort their hearts. Keep them steadfast in the faith of Christ, and zealous in the cause of You their God: and may they, and I, and all their people, be accepted of You at the last, through the full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction, of the same Jesus Christ, my only Mediator and Redeemer.

My Father, … The Lord bless me, …
