O ETERNAL God, our Heavenly Father, who has taught us to make prayers and supplications, and to give thanks for all men. We bless You for our fellow-citizens whom You have raised up to defend us against the assaults of our enemies by land and by sea. We commend them and all things belonging to them to Your Almighty protection. Guard them, we ask You, from the dangers to which they are continually exposed. May their lives and their health be precious in Your sight, and may Your mercy encompass them on every side. Lord of Hosts, the giver of all victory, in the day of battle direct and shelter them; endue them with valor and skill, and crown them with such success, as may ensure to us all the advantages of an honorable peace. May they ever gratefully cherish Your mercies. Lord in Your own good time may they be restored to their homes, to enjoy the blessings which they fought so valiantly to secure. Grant this, we ask You, O merciful Father, through Jesus Christ our Mediator and Redeemer. Amen. Book: Army and Navy Prayer Book of the Confederates States of America Printer: Richmond: Chas H.
