O LORD GOD OUR FATHER;
We give thanks for JESUS CHRIST, who, in Your infinite love and compassion for fallen man, did humble Himself to take upon Himself our nature, to be born of a woman, and born under the law; that You might redeem them that were under the law; that we might receive the adoption of sons, and be accounted the children of the Lord Almighty. We humbly bow before You, as Your ransomed people, to praise and magnify Your name for Your great humiliation, Your sufferings and death, and all that You did deign to do and to suffer in the stead of sinful men, that You might obtain eternal redemption for us. We look up to You now that You are exalted far above all blessing and praise; and beseech You, from the throne of Your glory, to behold us humbled at Your footstool; and to bestow upon us those gifts which You have received for men, even for the rebellious also, as the reward of the travail of Your soul. Endue us, O Lord, with Your Holy Spirit, enrich us with Your heavenly grace, and bless us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly things.
O Lord, our Governor, we thank You for Your protection continually vouchsafed to us, and especially for that of the night past. We pray for You to preserve and guide us this day; that we may not fall into the hands of the enemies of our souls, nor be led aside by the temptations to which we may be exposed; but may walk in the ways of Your laws; and in doing Your commandments may please You in body and in soul. Let our hearts be comforted, O Lord, with Your loving kindness and grace; and may we be established in every good word and work. May our spiritual strength be renewed in waiting upon You, that we may mount up in heart and affection to You, as on eagle’s wings, soaring above the world and all its vanities. May we run and not be weary, and walk and not faint, in the path of duty, and obedience to Your holy word and will. O Lord, instruct us and teach us in the way wherein we should go, and guide us continually with Your eye, that we may always do the things that please You.
Let all those for whom we ought to pray, obtain the same good gifts from Your bounty, which we ask for ourselves. May our relatives and friends partake of Your mercy and salvation.
Let Your church be unto You a praise in the whole earth. As the purchase of Your blood, may it glorify Your holy name. May it arise in Your strength to possess the earth, according to Your command; and may the kingdom of Satan be subverted, and Your dominion established over all mankind. Let all the ends of the world remember themselves, and be turned unto the Lord; and all the families’ of the nations worship before You. Set Yourself up, O God, above the heavens, and Your glory above all the earth.
Bless more abundantly our own country, which You have so highly favored. Turn us from our national sins, and let them not bring down Your judgments upon us.
Give our President Your loving kindness and mercy. Bless him, and direct all his councils; and let Your name he honored, and Your glory be promoted in the midst of us.
These our humble petitions we conclude in the words which You were pleased to teach Your disciples of old to make use of, saying,
Our Father, which art in heaven, etc.
