O Eternal God, great Father of men and of angels, who have established the heavens and the earth in a wonderful order, making day and night to succeed each other; I make my humble address to Your divine majesty, begging of You mercy and protection, this night, and forever.

O Lord, pardon all my sins; my light and rash words; the vanity and impiety of my thoughts; my unjust or unkind actions; and whatsoever offences I have committed against You this day, or at any time before.

Blessed be Your name for the mercies which, every day and every hour, I receive from You. You have provided for all my necessities, and set me forward in my duty, and in my way to heaven.

I am glad and rejoice in Your mercy. As You have opened Your hand to me in goodness. You have enlarged my heart with thankfulness, and You fill my mouth with praises.

Sanctify to me the holy truths, which I have this day heard in Your house, read in Your word, or had imparted to me by my teachers. May I grow in grace, as I advance in years ; and the longer I live may I be better prepared to die.

O Almighty God, extend Your abundant favor and loving kindness to all my friends and benefactors; reward them for all the good, which from Your merciful providence they have conveyed unto me. Pity all who are afflicted, and need Your supporting hand. Be the protector of my country, and of the church of Christ, and do good unto all mankind. This prayer I offer in the name of Jesus Christ, the redeemer of men. Amen.
