Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me

Great and glorious Lord God, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending, the First and the Last, which-was, and which is, and which is to come, the Almighty. Who shall not fear You, and glorify Your name?

O Lord my God, You are the dreadful, and the jealous God, against whose divine Majesty all my sins have been committed, and the fury of whose indignation I have stirred up round about me. Against You, You only, have I sinned all my days, by offenses innumerable and without excuse.

By evil thoughts and idle words, by leaving undone what I ought to do, and by doing what I ought not to do, I have failed continually in my duty to You, to my neighbor, and to myself. Your law is spiritual; but I am by nature carnal, sold under sin. I often do that which I am not allowed; that which I would desire not to do; and that which I hate I do. Even when I would most delight in Your law, after the inner man, I feel another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and striving to bring me into captivity to the law of sin, which is in my members. I confess, most righteous Lord, that my heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked, and that in my flesh dwells no good thing. I am unclean, Lord, I am unclean and You might justly regard me with abhorrence.

But, to whom should I go but to You, who alone gives medicine to heal my sickness? Mercifully with Your favor look upon me, for the word of Your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, through whom I am directed to seek all spiritual blessings at Your hands. Speak the word only, and Your servants shall be healed. From all my filth, and from all my pollutions. Cleanse me in His most precious blood. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew right spirit within me. Grant that I may find my corruptions weakened, and the power of Your grace increased in my soul. Grant that the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus may make me free from the law of sin and death; and deliver me from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of Your children.

Grant that this vile body which shall soon be committed to the ground, earth to earth, ashes to ashes, and dust to dust, in sure and certain hope of the resurrection to life eternal, may be changed, like Christ’s glorious body, according to the mighty working whereby He is able to subdue all things to himself.

Have mercy, O Lord, on all who partake of my sins and infirmities. Support and comfort those who see and lament the evil of their hearts and lives; who feel the flesh lusting against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh, and cannot do the things that they would. Do not be far from them, O Lord. For You are their succor, hasten to help them. Enable them to crucify the old man, and to bring into subjection the whole body of sin; and finally, give them the victory through my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Show to them all that is in error to the light of Your truth. Open the eyes of such as see not the fault and corruption of their nature. Lead those who think that they are rich, and increased with goods, and that they have need of nothing, to confess themselves wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked. May they learn to renounce their own righteousness, and submit to the righteousness of God.

Bring all nations to the obedience of faith. Be gracious to Your people Israel; and turn away the captivity of Jacob. Let the fullness of the Gentiles be brought in. Have compassion on this sinful land.

Accept, O heavenly Father, my thanks for the blessings which I have already received. Day by day I will magnify You, and every night proclaim Your faithfulness and truth. To You, and to the multitude of Your tender mercies, I commend myself, and all for whom I have prayed.

I ask You to hear me, good Lord. Son of God, I ask You to hear me. O Lamb of God, that takes away the sins of the world, have mercy upon me. O Christ, hear me; Lord, have mercy upon me. Christ, have mercy upon me. Lord, have mercy upon me.

My Father, fyc. The peace of God, fyc.
