O God, we come to render thanks to You for the mercies of another day and to implore Your care and blessing for the night. Promise, Eternal Father, to give us rest for our weariness. Lord, when we are weak and restless, renew our strength.
O God, who neither slumbers nor sleeps, lighten our eyes with Your light, that we do not sleep in death. Keep us from all terror by night, and from the pestilence that walks in darkness, from the destruction at noonday. Give us rest from toil, from every evil thought; and visit us with visions of wisdom, or with quiet refreshment.

Keep us dear Lord from all illusion of fond fancy or terror, from evil remembrance, and evil designing. In Your book all our members are written, grant us wholesome rest, free from terror and burden, with holy trust and peace.

You are our Maker and our Judge, but also our Father, Savior, and Friend; do not deny the comfort of Your Holy Spirit to Your children. Shelter our slumber with the wing of Your pity; let our awakening be in good time, a time of blessing and of prayer.

Early in the morning will we seek You with thanksgiving and zeal for Your service. Into Your hands, O Lord, our Maker, Preserver and Life-giver, we commend our spirits, souls, and bodies. Bless every friend, benefactor, and connection, whom You have granted to us in goodness, and bound us to the duty of prayer.  Guard our lying down, and our rising up, henceforth, Lord, and forever.

Let us remember You in resting, and when we wake up, be present with us. We will lay down in peace, and take our rest; for only You, O Father, make us dwell in safety. For our Savior’s sake. Amen!
