0 FATHER of all the races of men, Father of the whole great human family, how have we darkened and obscured Your face! Everywhere have You shed Your heavenly light, and we have blinded our eyes, and then have said that we could not see it. We have dreamed that the sun of Your truth shone only upon our own little strip of land, and that beyond was outer darkness. But how utterly different do we find You to be, 0 Lord, when we see that You who are our Father are also Father of all; that everywhere there is light from You, if men will but perceive and use it; that all paths shall lead to You that are trodden in love and purity. Then, 0 God, do we know You are great, with a greatness before unknown to us; then do we know indeed You are loving, leaving none alone in the darkness.
